For those who do not naturally have a knack for organizing, it can be difficult and overwhelming. Here at Z Salon & Spa, we like to keep you looking your best in every possible way– including your closet. For women, closets should be a pleasant space to dress and plan outfits, not a cluttered space where you reach for the same old t-shirt on a regular basis. We have laid out some tips that we hope will help you organize your everyday essentials.
Save the Space
Make the most of your closet space. Take inventory of the space you have in your closet and determine if you are using it to the best of its functionality. The back of closet doors are excellent for hanging purses, shoes and even jewelry. Generally, closets have only one rod across the closet. Install a second rod below it to add extra hanging space.
Don’t forget about the shelves! The top shelves in most closets are under-utilized. This is a great space for storing bulky items such as sweatshirts and larger travel bags and handbags. Purchase a few locker shelves to add extra shelving.
Jewelry and Accessories are easily stored away with various solutions. Empty paper towel holders are great for storing bracelets. Shower curtain rings can easily store scarves, handbags, necklaces, hats, etc. When you are storing small earrings, ice cube trays come in handy to keep all the pieces separated. Also, use that empty wine bottle, or any bottle, to store bracelets and ponytail holders. Old door knobs are a funky and creative way to hang various accessories in a closet.
Shoe bags are an excellent tool when organizing a closet. With the bag hanging on the back of the door, you can drop lotions or perfumes, shoes, small handbags, bracelets, etc. The options are almost endless with this type of storage tool. Command Hooks are also helpful to hang items on closet walls and doors.
Hangers with multiple hooks. These are great space-saving devices that are easy to use. Purchase a hanger with multiple hooks to hang several tank tops, belts and scarves at once without taking up extra space in drawers and closets.
Cleaning out Your Closet Space
If you are going to stay organized, it’s important to stay efficient. Clean out your closet regularly. Donate any unwanted clothing to charity. This keeps you from dropping into the routine of wearing the same items over and over again. A clean closet space allows you to see every piece of clothing you own.
If you are in the habit of repeating outfits, turn the hanger to face the hook outward until all of your hooks are facing one direction. After the end of a six-month period, donate any clothing that you have not worn. This will prevent your closet from being overstuffed and underutilized.
When organizing a closet, it is best to start small with one project at a time to prevent becoming overwhelmed with the big picture. Get creative with organizing and enjoy the process. I just had my closet customized to help me keep the space organized. One of the things that I had done for my closet was to have a lot of shelving put in to make room for all of my clothes that I want folded. However, one of the ideas that is posted here that I really like is the idea about a shoe bag. That would definitely come in handy, because I have a ton of shoes and have yet to find a place for them.
I love how you stated at the end that in order to stay organized you have to be efficient. I am such a procrastinator when it comes to keeping my closet clean. The main causes of it for me is that I forget to throw clothes out that I don’t wear anymore, so then I continue to buy more clothes but I have nowhere to put them. I think I’ll probably clean out my closet now and hopefully get rid of the stuff I don’t use. Thank you so much!
