Summer is usually a favorite time of year for most people, but not necessarily for their gorgeous locks. Sun, chlorine and saltwater all lighten, fade and dull hair color. Just as you need to protect your skin in summer months, you also should protect your hair color. To protect your hair from the sun, always use a UV protectant, like the Sun Care Hair Veil, which can be applied whether your hair is wet or dry. To help protect hair from chlorine and saltwater, apply a conditioner before diving in. This will create a UV barrier.
If you don’t have conditioner handy, don’t fret. You can always wet hair in the shower or dampen with a spray bottle before swimming as well. Hair is like a sponge. If it’s already wet, it will be much harder to soak up and absorb chlorine and saltwater. Lastly, always try to shampoo hair as soon after swimming as possible. The longer you wait to shampoo your hair after swimming, the higher the risk of damaging your hair color. So, to protect your skin, protect that hair color and party on…keep that color as beautiful as the weather!
